Mesopotamian mosaic art dates back to around 3000 BCE, originating in Sumer, Akkad, Assyria, and Babylon. These mosaics used small pieces of colored stones, shells, and glass, including lapis lazuli and limestone, to create geometric patterns, mythological scenes, and depictions of deities. The mosaics were both decorative and held significant cultural and religious meanings.
The Konark Wheel, part of the 13th-century Sun Temple in Konark, Odisha, India, features 24 intricately carved stone wheels resembling a colossal chariot. Each wheel, approximately 9 feet in diameter, is adorned with carvings depicting daily life, mythology, and acts as a sundial. The wheel exemplifies ancient India's architectural and cultural brilliance.
